The Professors' Institute
Always determined to get the most educational bang for our limited bucks, the DMAW Educational Foundation Board decades ago chose to co-sponsor with the national DMA "The Professors' Institute." The three-day session educated those who are teaching possible future practitioners.
The Professors' Institute is an annual event that allows professors to learn the nuts and bolts aspects of direct marketing, while discovering the latest developments of this fast-paced industry.
Each year, about 25 professors from the mid-Atlantic region attend sessions with "faculty" members (most of whom are also DMAW members) who donate their time and effort to encourage the teaching of direct marketing at the collegiate level.
Over the years, the professors-turned-students have come from Marymount University; The College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore; Howard University; the University of the District of Columbia; George Mason University, Fairfax, VA; the University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA; Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA; Radford University, Radford, VA; Villa Julie College in Stevenson, MD; and West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV.
Each teacher averages 50 students in two classes per semester, so the Institute's impact is impressive.
