The Michael O'Hara
Leadership in Education Award


Created in 2008, this award honors the decades of leadership in the Direct Marketing Association of Washington (DMAW) and DMAW Educational foundation by Michael O'Hara, PhD. Mike's honorary PhD was awarded by Shepherd University for his commitment to helping hundreds of his staff members continue their education. The O'Hara Leadership Award is presented annually the DMAW education Foundation to recognize achievement by a profession promoting direct and interactive marketing as a career choice for their students.

Pamela_Alreck

The 2011 O'Hara Leadership Award Recipient is Pamela L. Alreck, DBA, professor of marketing (ret) at the Franklin P. Perdue School o Business, Salisbury University.

Pamela L. Alreck, DBA Professor of Marketing (ret), at Salisbury University, began her association with the Direct Mail Marketing Association in San Diego in 1975. In her principal teaching area, Advertising and Promotion Management, she has been a strong promoter of direct marketing, encouraging thousands of students to consider and prepare for a career in the area.

A long-time member of the DMAW/EF Academic Advisory Board and Board of Directors, Pamela was a highly effective promoter of the DMAW/EF University Day. She accompanied hundreds of Salisbury University students to the event, introducing them to direct marketing strategies and techniques and, most importantly, to successful direct marketing professionals.

Dr. Alreck is the author of two business trade and textbooks: Why they buy: American consumers Inside and Out, has been published in Korean, as well as English. The third edition of the Survey Research Handbook has been translated and published in Chinese, as well as several European languages. Pamela has also published over 100 academic articles and research papers through her career. Her most recent research and publications include 34 articles and papers focusing on direct marketing, e-commerce, and online marketing.

Dr. Alreck has been an active speaker at business conferences and conventions, a consultant to advertising agencies and small businesses, and an expert source for print and broadcast media editors. Throughout her entire career, she has consistently encouraged the recognition and respect for direct marketing, not only among students and faculty, but also among business professionals and the general public.
